Job title: Engineer/Senior Engineer, Broadcast Operations

Work Location: Various: KPXE Kansas City, Missouri; KGPX Spokane, Washington; WZPX Grand Rapids, Michigan; KPPX Phoenix, Arizona; KTRV Boise, Idaho

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Station Engineering staff provide varying levels of preventative maintenance, emergency repairs and installation support of broadcast and radio frequency (RF) systems, including satellite and microwave equipment.

  • Actively engage in managing and maintaining all broadcast and technology related equipment including but not limited to transmitter, satellite downlink and microwave transmission systems

  • Possess thorough knowledge of FCC rules and regulations related to television broadcasting compliance

  • Provide and implement solid troubleshooting solutions, both independently and as a part of a diverse team, in time-sensitive and at times high-pressure situations

  • Implement and support fellow engineers (remotely, virtually and in person) with technical solutions

  • Effectively present information and respond to management, clients and viewers in a timely manner

  • Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor

  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures

  • The possibility of unexpected and/or late-night calls for engineering-emergencies at the station(s)

  • Assist in motivating and managing a staff of professional engineers and technicians

  • Work with related departments; in the determination of current and future needs; in the preparation and tracking of capital, expense, repair and maintenance budgets

  • Have a successful history of project management and leadership, empowering staff to carry-out projects while supporting the positive culture of the company

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Associate Degree in Electronics, Communications, or equivalent combination of education and work-related experience preferred

  • At least 7 years broadcast experience preferred. However, a successful track record in aligned industries will be considered.

  • Must have a thorough understanding of electronic, electrical, mechanical and information systems

  • Have expert level understanding of the general operation of a television station. 

  • Proactive, dynamic, flexible, self-starter with a positive attitude who is able to learn new systems or equipment on their own

  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude

  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices

Other Helpful Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders (including the ability to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone and in virtual environments)

  • Aptitude to use specialized equipment such as Spectrum Analyzers, VNAs, Signal Strength Meters, ETC

  • SBE and or IT/Networking certification(s)

  • Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook)

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including able to work multiple days, holidays, evenings, weekends, as needed

Job title: Director, Broadcast Field Operations

Work Location: Western United States

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Director serves as the hands-on lead and team champion for the station field staff. They ensure that all stations operate within the necessary technical parameters as well as motivate the field staff while promoting the companies’ culture and vision. 

  • Take lead in managing and maintaining all broadcast and technology related equipment including but not limited to transmitter, satellite downlink and microwave transmission systems

  • Motivate and manage a staff of professional engineers and technicians with an eye on supporting the companies’ culture and vision

  • Ability to be a hands-on role model with the willingness to lead by example and mentor supporting staff members

The full-time annual salary for this position is anticipated to range between $76,500.00 to $99,000.00. Compensation is commensurate with skill and experience.

Bonus opportunities are available but are at the discretion of INYO Leadership and are dependent upon individual and company performance.

Station interns provide varying levels of equipment maintenance and installation as well as support the company’s business and cultural goals by specializing in vital specific functions.

  • Support a varying range of business functions including but not limited to technical preparedness, information technology, signal distribution, equipment/procedure rollout, procurement, purchasing, real estate, and/or coordination

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Interns must be attending an accredited technical school, community college, or four-year college or university

  • Apprentices must be recent graduates of an accredited technical school, community college, or four-year college or university

  • Must be registered in an internship course during the quarter or semester in which the internship is performed

  • Must have strong academic record in broadcast related courses (minimum 3.0 GPA), e.g., broadcast engineering, telecommunications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Must be able to work between 10-20 hours per week (based on school’s requirements)

  • Must have reliable transportation
